FP7 NMP/INCO Brokerage Event in Warsaw, 17-18 September 2009
The event was organized under two FP7 projects: NMP TeAm and IncoNet EECA with collaboration with European Technology Platform EuMaT and was directed to research organisations and enterprises from European Union and Eastern Europe and Central Asia countries (EECA: Russia, Ukraine, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Azerbejdzan, Moldova, Belarus, and Georgia) interested in active participation in the Seventh Framework Programme.
The main aim of the event was to bring together the skills and knowledge of the potential consortia members from the EU and EECA region and to present concrete project ideas for future successful proposals within NMP 2010 calls.
The Event was focused on the following specific research areas:
- Hybrid materials for electronic and photonic applications
- Bio- and chemosensing materials in health, safety and security applications
- materials for energy applications, including energy thermo conversion and energy storage
- Nanocrystalline materials with novel functionalities and tools for their development
- Nanomaterials characterization.

EuMaT cooperation with other ETPs
EuMaT is one of a small number of cross-cutting Platforms that supports technologies
which underpin the interests of a number of other ETPs. Whilst it is not their main
activity, many of the Platforms have an interest in Materials and Technologies.
We would like to understand what the priority areas for materials R&D are within
other ETPs so that a coordinated response can be given to the Commission.
Therefore, EuMaT has initiated bringing together selected ETPs with potential interest
in Materials Technologies with the purpose to:
- understand the priority areas of Materials Technology which are of interest to other
ETPs,
- understand how these align with EuMaT’s priorities,
- use these to help define future priority areas for EuMaT and its recommendations
to the EC,
- discuss possible links between Platforms with mutual interests in Materials Technologies.
The European Commission will be regularly informed by EuMaT about the progresses
of this activity, and a workshop with a number of ETPs is being planned (expected
period Autumn 2009), with the support of the Materials Unit, Directorate G, to have
a discussion regarding the coordination and prioritisation of Materials activities
across various ETPs. The results of the workshop will be used by the Commission
as elements of advice to the definition of future programmes and actions on Materials
Research, including possible joint initiatives with other parts of the FP.
So far positive responses to this initiative have been received from:
⇒ European Technology Platform on Future Manufacturing Technologies
(MANUFUTURE)
⇒ European Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry (SUSCHEM)
⇒ European Steel Technology Platform (ESTEP)
⇒ European Technology Platform for Micro- and Nano-Manufacturing (MINAM)
⇒ European Technology Platform for Industrial Safety (ETPIS)
⇒ European Technology Platform for the Future of Textiles and Clothing
(TEXTILE ETP)
⇒ European Technology Platform for Wind Energy (TPWind)

A European Call on Materials Science and Engineering Opened: MATERA+ Call 2009
MATERA+ Call 2009 for transnational, innovative projects on materials science and
engineering is now opened. The Call is for industry, universities and research centers
in 15 European countries participating in MATERA+. The Call topics are Multi-functional
Materials, Engineering Structural Materials, Bio-based and Bio-inspired Materials.
The volume of the Call is about 20 million euros.
MATERA+ offers a simplified introduction to the initiation and participation in
R&D projects at the European level. The added value is the opportunity to easily
access international know-how, to gain technology and market expertise and to integrate
into international value chains.
MATERA+ is an ERA-NET Plus action which is initiated by the European Commission
in the seventh Framework Programme. With the additional EC financial support MATERA+
integrates the national and regional programmes in the field of materials. Individual
project partners seek funding from their national/regional funding agencies.
The deadline for Pre-Proposals is the 15th May 2009.
More information on the MATERA+ Call 2009 is available via www.matera.fi and in the Call Flyer (see link on the right
